Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana Scheme
PMKVY is the flagship scheme of the Government of India implemented through NSDC under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship(MSDE). This Skill Certification Scheme aims at enabling a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training for securing better livelihood. Individuals with prior learning experience or skills will also be assessed and certified under Recognition of Prior Learning(RPL). The scheme(PMKVY 2.0) now further approved for 2016-2020 aims to provide placement opportunities to trained and certified students besides providing support for entrepreneurship development. Training is imparted in accordance with 'National Skills Qualification Framework' (NSQF) with strict monitoring guidelines enforced by NSDC.
ASTM has been one of the leading and foremost training providers and has been leading the campaign forward by training students as per the mandated guidelines to create and impart skills-based training to men and women, capable of earning and supporting the nation’s anti-poverty endeavors. The scheme becomes all the more necessary in India as it has the largest jobless youth population in the world that requires employable skills. So, to make sure that this vast pool of youth/demographic dividend all over the country gets benefited, ASTM provides training across India in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi/NCR, Bangalore, Patna, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ranchi, Lucknow, Vadodara, Bhopal, Indore, and Kanpur to name a few.
Features & Benefits of PMKVY
The objective is to train 24 lakh youth and the estimated training cost of RS 1,500 crores.
To create a registry of skills.
Increasing the productivity of the skilled people which is useful for national development.
Training would be provided based on the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and industry-led standards, and it would be a need based training.
Most of the skills do not require any educational qualification or experience.
Over the last 2 years, through "Standard Training Assessment & Reward Scheme" (STAR) and PMKVY, ASTM has trained and certified more than 14500 candidates with decent placement record.
2016 PMKVY Updates
On the first anniversary of the scheme launch, the Union Cabinet approved an outlay of Rs 12,000 crore to give skills training to one crore people over the next four years. According to the government, throughout 18 lakh candidates have been registered and 17.93 lakh trained till July 18, 2016, under the scheme. It further says that the number of youths candidates trained and certified under the PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana are 2,37,067 and 1,48,351.
The National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) is continuing to set up 50 India International Skill Centers in our country at the end of 2016. The centers will provide training to health care workers, retail, security, tourism, hospitality, capital goods, auto, construction and domestic workers.
